DC 10 Super Tanker.

Join Bill Lorin for a look at the DC 10 Super Tanker, a former DC 10 passenger plane that has been retrofitted to become a high capacity fire bomber. Owned by 10 Tanker Air Carrier, the fleet of DC 10’s have been modified and fitted with external tanks that hold 12,000 gallons of fire retardant. Research has shown that one of the most essential elements of controlling a wildfire is to deliver the biggest payload of retardant on a fire quickly. The DC 10 Super Tanker fits both bills, and since 2006, it has proven itself to be a critical tool for fighting wildfires in the states of Washington and California. With an expanding fleet they will soon be servicing states across the nation and countries around the world.

NVFC and Baskin Robbins Honors America’s Favorite Junior Firefighters.

Junior Firefighter and Explorer programs across the United States are attracting America’s youth to the fire service and give them excellent knowledge of fire ground operations. Many young men and women who participate in these programs go on to serve their communities as paid or volunteer firefighters as adults. Recognizing this as the key to the future of firefighting, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) sponsors many programs aimed at assisting fire departments foster their junior firefighter programs. Guilty Verdict in Raymond Lee Oyler Arson Murder Trial

Raymond Lee Oyler has been convicted of arson and murder for the deaths of five U.S. Forest Service firefighters who were overcome while fighting the Esperanza Fire and on several counts of arson and using an incendiary device for several other California wildfires in 2006. A jury of eight women and four men deliberated for six days and issued their verdict in the Riverside Hall of Justic Courtroom of Superior Court Judge W. Charles Morgan on Friday, March 6th. Pierce Manufacturing Uses Safety and Environmental Innovations in Its Fire Truck Designs.

Pierce Manufacturing was founded in Wisconsin in 1913 when Humphrey and Dudley Pierce began building aftermarket and custom truck bodies for Ford’s 1-ton truck chassis. By 1940 the operation had grown, and Pierce was building fire trucks. Now owned by the Oshkosh Corporation, Pierce is the largest fire apparatus manufacturer in North America.
